What:                         Open auditions will be held for Seussical the Musical. Music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Based on the works of Dr. Seuss.

When:                         11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 14 (by appointment only – contact Robert Salberg to set up your appointment time).

Where:                   Pentacle Theatre Lobby, 324 52nd Ave. NW,  Salem, OR 97304

Casting:                  This family-friendly show includes a cast of about 30 people ages 5 to 95, including men, women and a large number of children and teenagers. A few roles already have been pre-cast due to scheduling issues; the bulk of the roles are still available. Auditions:                  Auditioning actors should:

  • Prepare 30 seconds of a Broadway song appropriate for your voice.
  • Bring accompaniment on a CD or mp3 player (such as an iPod or iPhone). An accompanist may not be provided. If an accompanist is available, bring sheet music.
  • Prepare 30 seconds of a poem in the style of Dr. Seuss.
  • Bring a list of your conflicts and your calendar.

Rehearsals:                Rehearsals will start mid-Sept. The APPROXIMATE rehearsal schedule is:

Mid-September, Monday-Thursday, 6-9 p.m. (some weekends possible)

October: Monday-Thursday, 6-9 p.m. (some weekends possible)

November and December: Minimal rehearsal, mostly on weekends with time off for holidays.

Jan. 2-8: The entire cast must be available for final rehearsals and performances.

Show dates:                This is the kickoff to Pentacle Theatre’s 2017 season. Traditionally, this is a fundraiser for Pentacle Theatre’s scholarship fund and has a limited run compared to other Pentacle Theatre shows. This year’s fundraiser, Seussical the Musical, will run Friday, Jan. 6; Saturday, Jan. 7; and Sunday, Jan. 8. For the first time, Pentacle Theatre’s fundraiser show will be held at the historic Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem.

About the show:        This family-friendly show is a favorite among school productions and community theaters. The show is based on a combination of some of the most famous works of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
