Greetings from Pentacle Theatre! We are interested in getting some feedback from you regarding the 2026 Season. Comedy: Comedies are a popular genre of plays that aim to entertain and bring laughter to the audience. These plays often feature lighthearted and humorous situations, witty dialogue, and eccentric characters. Examples:

Drama: Modern ordinary characters rise to the status of exceptional characters facing a tragic web of circumstances and personal weaknesses that spell their doom in an unsympathetic world. Examples: Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie

Dramedy: balances the elements of a drama and a comedy. Also known as a comedy drama, this hybrid genre often deals with real life situations, grounded characters, and believable situations. The ratio between the drama and comedy can vary, but most of the time there is an equal measure of both, with neither side dominating. Examples: Our Town, Brighton Beach Memoirs, August Osage County

Farce: a subcategory of comedy, characterized by greatly exaggerated characters and situations. Characters tend to be one-dimensional and often follow stereotypical behavior. Farces typically involve mistaken identities, lots of physical comedy and outrageous plot twists. Examples: Noises Off, Charley’s Aunt, Rumors

Mystery/Suspense/Thriller: both types of suspense that involve characters trying to solve a mystery or escape a dangerous situation. Mysteries are more cerebral and puzzle-focused, while thrillers are more action-packed and emotional. Examples: Mousetrap, Murder on the Orient Express, Witness for the Prosecution, The Game’s Afoot

Classic/Literary: works with artistic/literary merit that are typically character-driven rather than plot-driven, following a character’s inner story. They often include political criticism, social commentary, and reflections on humanity.[These works are part of an accepted literary canon and widely taught in schools. Examples: Romeo & Ju: liet, The Crucible, Amadeus, Lion in Winter, Elephant Man

Holiday: plays performed during the holiday season that celebrate religious or secular holidays Examples: A Christmas Carol, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, It’s a Wonderful Life
