What:  Open auditions for the perennial holiday favorite, It’s a Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play, by Joe Landry. Directed by Debbie Neel, with assistant director Liz Rogers.

When:  1 p.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25.

Where:  Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave. NW. Off Highway 22 about 6 miles west of downtown Salem.

Casting:  Roles for three men and two women who play multiple characters, plus two onstage Foley artists to perform live sound effects.

Things to know:  Auditorium doors open at 12:30 p.m. Open auditions for all roles begin promptly at 1 p.m. and may run as late as 5 p.m.

** All people participating in auditions must provide proof of vaccination and wear a mask to participate.**

Actors will read from the script, copies of which are available on loan at the Pentacle Theatre for a $10 refundable deposit. Email Lisa Joyce or call 503-409-3971 to arrange for pickup.

Please arrive early to fill out an audition form. We encourage you to download a copy at pentacletheatre.org/auditions and complete it in advance. Please write clearly, especially your contact information. Headshots and resumes are not required, but always appreciated.

Please provide a complete list of your conflicts through DEC. 18 on the audition form­ and bring your calendar to auditions.

We encourage parents of minor children who are auditioning to download and read our guidelines concerning minors at Pentacle Theatre.

Callbacks:  Sunday, Sept. 26, if needed.

Rehearsals:   Generally, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, beginning in late September at a location TBA. In late October, rehearsals will move to Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave. NW, off Highway 22 about 6 miles west of downtown Salem.

The director will set weekend rehearsals and work sessions as needed.

We’ll schedule rehearsals to make the best use of everyone’s time, especially for students. Only actors needed for scheduled scenes will be required at rehearsals and we’ll release actors as early as possible. We understand students in school are a priority. As we get further into rehearsals, we’ll need everybody there so we can run the whole show.

Cast members may be required to make special appearances for marketing purposes in the weeks before the show opens.

About the show:   Pentacle Theatre will celebrate the warmth of the holiday season with the perennial audience favorite, It’s a Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play.

On Christmas Eve, 1946, an ensemble of five actors gather in a radio studio to perform a radio broadcast of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, the story of George, who considers giving up on life. Clarence, a guardian angel, helps George realize how different the world would be if he’d never been born. The five actors play more than 40 characters. They are joined onstage by two Foley artists (live sound effects creators) who help bring the story to life.

Casting call:  Casting actors of all abilities, genders and ethnicities for the following roles.

Freddie Filmore, age 30s–60s. An actor who works for the radio station. He is the Announcer who also plays Old Man Gower and other characters.

Jake Laurents, age 20s–30s. Plays George Bailey and young George.

Sally Applewhite, age 20s–30s. Plays Mary Hatch and young Mary.

Lana Sherwood, age 40s–60s. Plays Violet, young Violet and others.

Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood, age 30s–50s. Plays Harry, Clarence Oddbody and other characters.

Two Foley artists (sound effects creators/performers) of any gender and age.
