[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]What: Open auditions for Pentacle Theatre’s winter fundraiser, Beauty and the Beast, a musical based on the Disney movie, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton.

When: 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, for children ages 8-17. 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, for adults ages 18 and up. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. both days.
Where: Pentacle Theatre lobby, located off Highway 22 at 324 52nd Ave. NW, about 6 miles west of downtown Salem.

Casting: Roles for men, women and children, ages 8 and up.

Beauty and the Beast is an ensemble musical with many opportunities for doubling parts. It features numerous roles with speaking parts and solos, and a large chorus of familiar and fun characters for actors of all ages.

Pentacle Theatre encourages actors of all abilities and ethnic backgrounds to participate in its productions.

Things to know:
• Please prepare one minute of a Broadway show song, not from the Beauty and the Beast musical or the Disney movie.
• Dress comfortably and be ready to learn a short dance routine.
• Please arrive promptly by 1 p.m. and plan to stay as late as 5 p.m.
• Plan to arrive early to fill out an audition form, or download a copy at PentacleTheatre.org/auditions and complete it in advance. Please write clearly, especially your contact information.
• Please bring your calendar and provide a complete list of your conflicts through Jan. 7.
• There will be a piano accompanist and a CD player at the audition. Please come prepared with music for the accompanist or a CD. You may provide your own accompanist if you wish. NO A CAPELLA SINGING, PLEASE.

Callbacks: To be announced.
Rehearsals: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays in downtown Salem. The director will set weekend rehearsals and work sessions as needed.
Show dates: Jan. 5-7, at The Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem.

Casting Call:

Beauty and the Beast features many speaking parts and featured roles with lines and solos:

• Belle, a young woman from a provincial town
• The Beast, master of the castle who used to be a prince
• Maurice, an inventor and Belle’s father
• Gaston, a pompous and dim-witted “ladies man”
• Lefou, a dim-witted lackey to Gaston
• Monsieur D’ Arque, proprietor of the lunatic asylum
• Cogsworth, an English major-domo of the castle who is becoming a mantle clock
• Lumiere, a French Maître d’ who is becoming a candelabra
• Babette, a maid who is becoming a feather duster
• Mrs. Potts, a cook who is becoming a teapot
• Chip, Mrs. Pott’s son, who is becoming a teacup
• Madame De La Grande Bouche, an opera singer who is becoming a wardrobe

Other Roles:

• Narrator
• Young Man, selfish prince
• Old Beggar Woman, an enchantress in disguise
• Townspeople of all ages
• Many servants, including flatware, dishes, napkins, etc.
