The Diary of Anne Frank opens March 4, features educational exhibit
Pentacle Theatre’s production of The Diary of Anne Frank opens for a three and half week run beginning on March 3 and ending March 26.
In this transcendentally powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit and determination.
The Diary of Anne Frank is an impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic in Amsterdam for two years during World War II. In this new adaptation for a new generation, Kesselman captures the claustrophobic realities of the Frank family’s daily existence—their fear, their hope, their laughter and their grief. Each day of these two dark years, Anne’s voice shines through: “When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!”
Debbie Neel directs with the assistance of Diane Francis. The cast includes Pamela Bilderbeck, Emma Bucher, Laura Davis, Robert Herzog, Tim Jaeger, Cameron Lara, Todd Logan, Jordan Mackor, Meyer Reed, Maxwell Romprey, Jeff Seeley, Francesca Thompson and Cherie Ulmer.
A special lobby exhibit—Anne Frank: A History for Today—is on loan to Pentacle Theatre from The Anne Frank Center USA for the entire run of The Diary of Anne Frank. The lobby exhibit features Anne Frank photographs and historical analysis, a 28-minute documentary and other information about the Holocaust.
Audience members are encouraged to come early and view this exclusive exhibit as a preview to the play. Docents will be there to answer patron questions and provide additional information.
Anne Frank: A History for Today was developed by the Anne Frank House and is sponsored in North America by The Anne Frank Center USA. A grant from the Marion Cultural Development Corporation helped bring the exhibit to Pentacle Theatre.
Ticket prices:
Tickets cost $20 for weekday performances and $21 for weekend shows; seniors, students, active military and Pentacle Theatre members receive a $1.50 discount. There is an additional $2 fee on opening night for the catered post-show party. Audience advisory:
At this time, the Pentacle recommends this production for middle school and older audiences. The play features mature content that is historical and non-fiction.
