Da-da-da-Dum. Snap! Snap! Sound familiar?

If that’s all you remember as the soundtrack of the old “Addams Family” TV show, you’re in for a real surprise with The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy that opens Oct. 2 at Pentacle Theatre.

Yes, they’re still creepy and kooky, as families go, and still living in their super-spooky old mansion in New York’s Central Park, but some things have changed for the ever-devoted Gomez Addams and his seemingly undead and always-elegant wife, Morticia. Their daughter, Wednesday, is now 18 and falling in love — a sensation that is unsettling for both her and her family of endearing misfits. When Wednesday invites her new boyfriend, Lucas, and his “normal” family to meet the unusual Addams household, comic chaos erupts.

With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy is a family friendly show that includes mixed-up potions, a scorching comic tango, and an undead chorus of Addams ancestors. So bring the kids, they’ll have a blast.

Directed by Wendy Boyack, the cast features Jeff Witt as Gomez, Jennifer Kercher as Morticia, Hannah Boyack as Wednesday, Harry Logan as Pugsley, Carol Pavelek as Grandma, Brett Hochstetler as Fester, Kevin Hamler-Dupras as Lurch, Jon Unrein as Lucas, Susan Schoaps as Alice and James Owens as Mal. The undead ancestors chorus includes Nicholas Kintz, Jedidiah L. Kercher, Brian Smith, Maxwell Romprey, Ian Barth, Christopher Taggart, Natalie Pate, Anna Schumacher, Kathryn Davidson, Kimberly Jones, Shyleen Johnson, Abigail Kowalczyk, Antonio Schoaps, Lillian Boyack, Emily Paoli and Faithann Berry.

The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy is made possible in part by our generous sponsors, Steven and Cynthia Addams, and Salem law firm Saalfeld Griggs PC.

Steve Addams enjoys the obvious connection: “We Addamses stick together, so of course we would step up to support the family. Long live the Addams Family and Pentacle Theatre,” he said.

Erich Paetsch of Saalfeld Griggs said his firm is committed to supporting the arts in Salem: “Lawyers are really good at handling unusual situations and working with people who are out of the ordinary — so The Addams Family musical and its quirky characters is a good fit. We’re excited to help bring this fun, family show to life on the Pentacle Theatre stage.”
